Women Aren't Fruit

The definition of a fruit is ' the sweet and fleshy product of a tree or other plant that contains seed and can be eaten as food'. For awhile, fruits have also been used as a means to categorize the female body into different types. They have been used, perhaps, as a tool to instruct women on how they should react to their own bodies, and this is a practice that is in a desperate need of being stopped.

There are many attempts out there to put labels on what we know to be the undeniably diverse form of the female body. The ever present need to scrutinise the female form has existed for what seems to have been an eternity, and what lingers is an aching need to conform and become apart of what is constantly presented to be the ideal. Yet, what is the ideal?

The earliest memory that I can recall, wherein I was left to question the natural shape of my body, was when I was aged nine. From what I remember, I was with two other girls in the school bathroom and we were stood in front of this long mirror, posing. By chance, these two girls lacked even one ounce of the puppy fat that I had readily accumulated, and I can remember staring at it idly as they both twirled around the floors outside the toilet stalls.

What strikes me most about this memory is not only how young I was when it happened, but the fact that I can still remember it. Something, that otherwise would have been meaningless, has been carved into the innermost parts of my brain, purely because of the way it had made me feel. I doubt those other girls remember that moment, or at least not in the way that I do.

It hurts to think that the female body has been picked at to the point where even young girls struggle to feel beautiful.

Perhaps the most bizarre aspect of this all is the fact that no one fully knows what the 'perfect' female body would look like. Everybody appears to yearn for different things, so why have we not reached a point where we universally accept that every single form on this earth is worthy of being both loved and cherished?

When I was slightly younger than what I am now, I remember turning to internet - in search of guidance as to what I should wear in order to 'best flatter my figure' (a.k.a. to hide my chest) . What I was met with were an array of videos that dictated what women of certain body types should and shouldn't wear. Back then, it had been almost hypnotic. I had felt the need to abide by these unspoken laws, and if that meant rejecting my beloved turtle necks then I was ready to be compliant.

There was some point down the line when I began to recognise the flaws that were inherently laced into the words of those supposed 'wise women'. Every word that they would utter seemed to be in relation to hiding something. And it occurred to me that the things they would insist needed to be concealed, were the very things that made an individual a human being.

It made me wonder about something. It made me wonder about why there was an apparent necessity to hide the beauty within the realism of such imperfections - if that is even what they should be called.

Now that I am older, I can appreciate the wonders of the human body that I had been blind to before. I strive to cherish it, and I work hard to appreciate the abundance of things that it gives me the capacity to do.

It isn't always easy. Moments before writing this I had stared in the mirror, wide-eyed at the prospect of a faint crease embedding itself into the depths of my face and somewhat alarmed at the light lines that peppered the inner parts of my thigh. Yet, I told myself that each of those marks held a potent significance. I told myself that even if they weren't beautiful in society's eyes, they were beautiful in mine. And that was all that mattered.

The painting that I have attached above was something that I created in the early parts of the quarantine period. It had started as a means to ridicule those vacant labels that get thrown around, such as 'pear shape' and 'apple shape', yet when I was finished with it - I realised that it had become something more. To me, it had become a symbol of unity and inclusivity, one that rejected any attempt to categorise the mesmerising beauty of  the diverse female form.

It is apparent to me now, more than ever, that women should never have been likened to fruit. Women are not fruit, we are human. And that is something that we should celebrate and revel in, rather than letting it be something that we strive to conceal.

Chocolate Or Beauty Advent Calendars ?

Hey  !
I'm really sorry that I haven't been posting much - I have been insanely busy and my mum has brought in this new rule which is 'No using the internet on weekdays , unless it's for studies ...' , which reduces the amount of time I have to make blog posts, nevertheless - I'm really sorry , and I will blog more often from now on !
Anyway , so Christmas is approaching and I assume that most of us are going to be going advent calendar shopping soon ( I know I have to!) .This year I was debating about whether I should get a beauty calendar -or stick with chocolate , and it occurred to me , that some of you guys may be wondering about the same thing too! So I thought that I should make a blog post , giving you the pros and cons of the two different calendars !
Pros Of Beauty Calendars + Cons Of Chocolate Calendars.
•Firstly , Beauty Calendars have a range of things in them , so its always exciting to open , (Not saying its boring to open the Chocolate Calendars - who can deny chocolate !?) .Chocolate Calendars only have one type of chocolate in them ,  and they only last for a small amount of time (or how long you take to eat the chocolate ).
•This brings me to my next point . Since Beauty Calendars contain beauty products , they won't run out in the 5-10 seconds it takes you to eat chocolate .You will be able to keep the products safely , so you can use them after Christmas too! It's like getting a Christmas present every day !
•This can be a pro & a con for Chocolate Calendars , as it depends on how much of a chocoholic you are . As a self confessed chocoholic , this is a huge point .Okay , so picture this , you wake up & rush downstairs to eat the days' chocolate , and then you hear the calendar calling out your name & begging you to open an extra door (Don't lie , I know its happened to everyone , at least once !) What do you do? Well...heh...you definitely don't listen to it...IS IT BAD THAT I ALWAYS LISTEN TO IT !? Anyway - I feel that with the Beauty Calendars, you can restrain yourself some more (well it depends what you like best ...)
•I have a friend who is allergic to dairy products (including chocolate ) , so for her - she can only buy Beauty Calendars - or no calendars at all. This can be a common problem with Chocolate Calendars, so you must ensure you read the ingredients before buying !
• My final pro for Beauty Calendars , is that sometimes they come in drawers , or boxes . These can be re-used  for storage purposes etc. (Or in my case , as a room decoration - considering that I'm a huge junkie/hoarder)
Cons Of Beauty Calendars + Pros Of Chocolate Calendars .
•The cons of Beauty Calendars are that they tend to be very pricey , and as someone who doesn't necessarily a have a load of cash - they are more expensive that your standard Chocolate Calendar . I think the cheapest one I have come across is the Tanya Burr - 'Deck the Hauls' calendar . This is £25 , which is definitely a bargain - considering the fact that all products are of extremely good quality !
•Another con of this particular type of calendar is the amount of days it supplies for . Beauty Calendars tend to only stock up to 12 days worth of goodies (sparing a few , however those are more pricey ). If you do decide to get one of these , I suggest you open a door every 2 days :-).
•Chocolate Calendars always stock up to the full 24 days , and the chocolate is extremely good quality (Cadbury's is my favourite !)
•If you do need a last minute advent calendar , Chocolate ones are always the best to go to , as they often have endless supplies of them , and are more commonly found!
I hope this helped , and if you don't want either of these calendars , you can always forget them and go for a play mobile one ;-) ! I'm still not sure what I should get , so leave a comment saying which one you would go for ,and hopefully I'll decide quickly ! Thanks for reading !
Bye !

Would You Rather Tag - Beauty Edition

Hey !

So this is my second post , and I have decided to do the 'Would You Rather Tag -Beauty Edition' . This basically is a bunch of questions about beauty. I thought this would be fun , and as I am a mega beauty-a-holic (is that even a thing ?) I thought it would be interesting . So here goes nothing !

Question 1 - Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner , or eyeliner as lipstick ?

I would probably choose eyeliner as lipstick, because bright pink and red eyes would just look weird , and at least if you have black lips you can pass off as a goth , couldn't you ? :-P

Question 2 - Would you rather never be able to fill your eyebrows , or only use a sharpie to fill them ?

I would say never fill them , because i'm not really an eyebrow person ,  I rarely need to fill them .

Question 3 - Would you rather only use one eyeshadow colour or one lip colour for the rest of your life ?

That's a tough one ...I  think I would go for one eyeshadow colour for the rest of my life , because I usually go for  a natural colour  , and if you have, for example , blue eyeshadow only a small selection of  lip shades go with it , whereas nude eyes go with loads of lip shades !

Question 4 -Would you rather where dark or bright nails all year round ?

I think I would choose bright nails , because I generally like bright nails , and I usually wear them anyway , so it wouldn't be a great loss if I couldn't wear dark nails .

Question 5 - Would you rather give up your favourite lip product or eye product ?

Lip product because my favourite eye product has a variety of shades in it ( Barry M  Natural Shadow and Primer Glow palette 2 ) Whereas my favourite lip product ( Revlon - number 49 - Brickstone ) is only 1 colour .

Question 6 - Would you rather go out with messy hair & make-up , or nice hair & no make-up ?

Messy hair & Make-up , because I can always scrape my hair into a messy bun , or ponytail etc.

Question 7 - Would you rather have neon green hair , or wear neon green lipstick for the rest of your life ?

I would rather have neon green hair , because I could do more with it , and I  wouldn't look like puffy lipped frog (if you get what I mean )

Question 8- Would you rather wear your make-up all the time(even when you sleep!) , or never wear it ?

I would never wear it , because  it's bad for your skin, if you wear it all the time. Also it would smudge if you cried or accidentally rub it off etc.

So , that was the 'Would you rather  Tag-Beauty Edition ' . I randomly chose questions from youtube videos & Google  , as there were LOADS of questions , and I couldn't possibly answer them all . I hoped you enjoyed this post , and feel free to comment what you would have chosen  and why ,

Thanks  for reading !( I should get  special greeting and 'goodbye' words ;-P )
